Enter from the main carpark and walk towards the boardwalk and wetlands. You can follow the suggested route, or just start exploring.

Allow 30 minutes to walk the trail loop and 1 to 2 hours overall for the activities and free play.

The Skink habitat is harder to find if you don’t follow the trail and map.

That's One BIG Lava Cake!

It was 1882 and railway workers were chipping away at a HUGE rock, guess what they found? 50 million years of Melbourne’s geology layered in stone. That’s lava, sandstone, leaf fossils and more.

Take a short walk on the Upfield Bike lane (look for cyclists) and see part of Melbourne’s history. (See map)

How many layers of stone can you see in the rockface? Can you find the pickaxe marks from 1882?

Detail Detective

Hunt around for a small object that you like and is safe to pick up - a leaf, feather, rock, seed, flower?

Touch it, smell it, take a closer look (don’t eat it!) If you have a magnifying glass -what else can you see?

Describe 3 tiny details. Think of 3 wacky uses for your new treasure.
